On the road…Day 2..

I had another great day on the road… Went from Wawa to North Bay, stopped for a visit with friends for a few hours.. then pushed on to Haliburton!  I didn’t take many photos… but if you’d like to see some more photos you can look at my trip from a year ago HERE! (there are also some awesome shots of the Northern Lights Motel!)

My favourite part of the road trip, is between Wawa and the Sault!  The views are amazing…

I got to North Bay around 6pm… and I stopped to see my friend Amanda…who was visiting her parents!  It was really nice to see her and Ian and her parents… and how could I not mention her little guy!! While driving between Sudbury and North Bay…there was a thunder storm brewing… so by the time I got to Amanda’s parents it just POURED! (I was so happy NOT to be driving!)

Amanda’s Dad BBQed an amazing dinner… (and because of the rain–he put on his rain attire!)Last time I saw Amanda in May… I didn’t get a photo of us… Ian her hubby took this shot… (he’s got mad photo skills)! Thanks Ian… The rest of my trip was uneventful!  I arrived at my mum’s just after 11:30pm… I was glad to be free of Milo’s company for a bit!!

On the road…Day 1..

Last night I had a bit of a homemade ‘tetris’ game to play!  It was great fun, (actually took me like 15-20mins)…and the rain held off until after I was done! I had 4 winter tires… 2 big suitcases; 4 rubbermaid tubs(1 was full)…a green shopping basket filled with stuff… plus two duffle bags–that weren’t really full at all!  Oh, plus a piece of artwork.. and my didgeridoo…! But I got it all in my car.. and was able to keep all my mirrors and could see out the back window!!! (yep, I’m THAT good…) hehehe

So you know what the funny thing is? I did this drive EXACTLY a year ago!!! (weird eh).. Apparently this is the time for me to make that trek from Winnipeg to Wawa.. perhaps I have a new tradition that I’ll have to keep up!?  I didn’t take any photos today… partly because I just wanted to get to WAWA so I could get back to sleep!  hehehe…but if you want to take a look at my trip from last year… take a look HERE !

Before leaving Winnipeg I stopped at Tim’s and got some ‘supplies’… (thanks to friends that gave me some gift certs!!)

I had a long day on the road today!  All in all it took me about 12hours and 30mins +1hour for the time change= 13 1/2 hours…. I covered 1182 kms… and got myself to Wawa and the Northern Lights Motel!!

Look who was here to greet me? –you’ll have to wait to see who it was!

*I can’t seem to upload my photos…and i’m ready to sleep… so I’ll have to figure that out tomorrow!!! 🙂 check back for that update! 🙂 Sarah

**edited–to add the photos from the day!! 🙂

>Day Three: Thunder Bay, Ontario to Winnipeg, Manitoba

>

We left Thunder Bay fairly early… about 8:30am.. it was crazy cold… but we did a quick stop at Kakebeka Falls... Meg just wanted to stay WARM.. but I told her she had to have a photo!!!
A quick self-portrait together… (we didn’t pay for parking again… yes, we are REBELS!)…
We didn’t stop at Timmie’s like we had planned… the nice lady at the check out desk at the hotel… told us one would be on our way.. but apparently she was wrong… So we stopped in Kakebeka Falls for gas, and then to the grocery store for some yummy lemon poppy seed muffins and apple fritters!!! It was a good choice!
Crossing the time-zone… I love self-portraits, and camera timers!! (the day was on again off again rainy all day.. but when we hit here it was SUNNY!!)
Had to get yet another ‘moose’ warning sign!!! 🙂
We stopped to pay hommage to the ‘ape-man’?! In Vermillion Bay… I still don’t know the story behind this guy… and really not sure WHY it is there.. but it’s damn FUNNY!!! Here’s Meg and “ape-man” (still not sure what to call him!)
..and yes, that is unfortunate that there isn’t enough material to cover his butt!! (seriously he must get COLD in the winter!!)
We got stopped for AWHILE, due to construction… so what is one to do when they put their car into neutral, pop the E-brake?… why take photos of course!!! (I think this is one of my fav shots of Meg!)
..then I took a photo of the lady who was the flagger, I’m not really sure what she was doing here?! perhaps blowing into her glove to warm it up!? It was really cold!
..and me, at the controls of Milo…
..we were the first in a LONG line of cars…. going both directions!!!
At the Manitoba/Ontario Boarder there was more construction.. but Meg was able to still capture some awesome photos!!! 🙂
..Back on the Prairies… Meg’s first sight of the ‘flatness’!!
Meg snapped a shot of her first ‘grain-elevator’ thingy! (I think that’s what it’s called!?) She was pretty impressed with seeing it!! (and I think she did an awesome job with my camera–and a moving car..)
…We are HERE!!! 🙂
It’s good to be home!! I think Milo was very happy to get the ‘extra’ stuff out of him.. and be empty.. and we were glad NOT to be in his company for awhile!!!

>Day Two: Wawa, to Thunder Bay, Ontario!!

>

Today we had a bit of a slow start… (partly due to me…but in the end it was an ok thing!)…  We set off from Wawa after a delicious breakfast–I SO luv the NORTHERN LIGHTS Motel… you NEED to stay there if you are in Wawa!!!
We did not see a moose.. but Meg saw a few fun signs, and we had to take some photos of them!
..there is a song about “moose on the loose” but I believe they are also full of juice?
(I think that’s when they are a ‘big’ problem!)
It was rainy in White River… but we had to stop to say HI to Pooh Bear!!
This weekend is the festival… to think I missed it by like 5 days!!!
An awesome view from a look out!!

Group Shot!!! (it was so windy and chilly!!)
Meg and the “sleeping giant”…
The “Sleeping Giant” all on his own!!
Stopping to see Terry Fox…
We quickly (as safe as possible) headed over to Fort William… so we could walk around before it closed at 5pm… (we arrived at 3:15pm… perfect timing.. and way enough time to chill!) Here are some random photos from that experience!!! Both of us being ‘history’ majors… got a kick out of this place… I still think at some point in my life.. I need to work at a place like this!!
This guy.. was tryin to tell me how much I’d need to work for a cast iron pot… man it was heavy!
The inner court-yard… with the “big-house?”
These teeny-tiny beds… made me chuckle… but I suppose people were shorter then!? or they liked to cuddle… yes, cuddling I suppose is nice!?
I’m stiring the ‘big’ pot with a HUGE spoon… and then a ‘creepy’ guy trapped Meg and I in the room.. and we couldn’t escape… he was just a bit ‘ackward’, and wanted to engage us in some historical discussion… but we didn’t quite feel the same vibe!!
Meg and the Spoon.. (isn’t it HUGE!?)… she should have used it to swat the creepy guy away.. but don’t worry… she didn’t and neither did I!
In one of the ‘shops/houses/building things!’
I was challenged to a checker game… the man said he had just learned 2 weeks ago.. and asked if I had $5 to put on a game… I politely declined!!
..but I did become his assistant on the lathe…
Meg on the other hand worked the hand drill… (but it had another name.. and I forget… which is kind of silly bc my grandpa use to have these guys.. and I’ve used them before!)
We went into the barrel making shop… and stayed awhile…
Just some random shots… from the Fort!
…a view of the outside wall surrounding the Fort… (to keep people out I suppose!)
…blankets were EVERYWHERE.. I’m not sure who would have even wanted the SCRATCHY WOOL blankets… YIKES! but I suppose if you were living in the Voyageur times… a SCRATCHY WOOL blanket might be welcomed!!
Meg thought this bed was comfy… I told her we’d find a hotel near-by…. with a pool… (she didn’t stay long after that!)
Birch Bark Canoe.. pretty darn cool!!
On our way back to Milo… the end of a GREAT day!!!
We checked into our hotel.. that indeed had a pool, sauna and steam rooms!! That felt OH SOOOO GOOD!!! 🙂 Tomorrow we should arrive in the ‘peg at some point in the day…

>Day One: Elmvale to Wawa, Ontario!!

>

Today I started my trek back to Winnipeg!  Travelling with me on the road is my cousin, Meg… here we are at the begining of the day… apparently her little bro also got into the photo!!!
Our first stop was at the Timmie’s near Parry Sound… we found these comfy Muskoka chairs.. but dont’ worry we only stopped long enough for a photo!!!!!
Soon after that stop.. we ran into some like crazy rain… rain that even Milo’s fastest wiper speed didn’t quite keep up!  The road were covered in water, and I was glad it lasted about a max of 15mins… For the rest of the day we were pretty rain free… but apparently there’s some crazy weather in store for the areas we just drove through!!
In Sudbury, we found the ‘Big Nickel’… it’s been moved! We had to pay $5 to enter the parking lot… and well in honour of our 5min photo shoot…and the $5 I had to pay for it… I give you (have you guessed it?!) 5 photos!!
The nickel in all it’s glory!! (I remember it sitting on the top of the a rock when I saw it when I was 12… and Meg remembers it sitting on top of a grassy hill/spot when she saw it 10 years later when she was 12… weird..because the nickel isnt in a spot that looks like either of those recollections!!?)
Asking a random person to take our photo… is always a great idea to get shots like THIS one!! 😉
..had to see the ‘flip’ side.. to make sure we got all our ‘money’ out of this trip!!
Yup… sometimes you just have to JUMP!! (and sometimes you have your tongue sticking out!)…
Milo had a further view away from the nickel….
Meg has one wish on this trip… to see a “moose”… (Milo is afraid of Moose..) so I hope we really don’t see one up close and personal like!! But today… we did see THREE moose!!!
Meg got all comfy cozy with the first one!!!
The second Moose.. well he looked a bit threatening.. so Meg declined a photo shoot with that guy!!
The third… so nice… she almost kissed him… (not really sure about that you’d have to ask Meg!?)
Our first stop along the shore of Lake Superior!!!
Having fun, taking photos.. we won’t tell you how many timer shots it took to get this one!!
Another stop, along the side of this HUGE lake!!
We also had the company of a grey hound bus and it’s passengers stretching their legs….
Doesn’t Milo look Great!?
Our idea was to stop at Katherine Cove to do a bit of swimming… BUT it was way windy… and it was like 5ish.. and well we declined the swim.. but did splash around a bit.. and took some fun jumping photos!!!
(remember how calm it was before when I drove through? it wasn’t today!)
…it’s been a process in the works.. and I still need to practice my jumping skills… BUT am starting to like shots of me caught in the act!!!
Luv this shot!!!!
We arrived at the Goose (aka WAWA)… about 7:40ish… we stopped to take a few photos…. and then went in search of food… (we had reserved a room, earlier when we passed through the Sault!)
Apparently there are a FEW large GEESE in town… we spotted TWO when we went into town for dinner and found a gas station!!!

This pizza was yummy… it’s just so sad it took close to 50mins to arrive… (I think they had to go to Italy for it… and people that arrived AFTER us, and ordered… they got THEIRS first… weirdness!)

We arrived again at our motel… and well there were TWO little ducks to greet us….

It’s been a great ride…. I can’t wait for Day Two!! (but I do need sleep… seems like I’ve been going crazy since Columbia.. and coming back!!)… Talk to you tomorrow!
